HNB Assurance won a Silver Award at the SLITAD ‘People Development Awards 2014’ which was organized by the Sri Lanka Institute of Training and Development (SLITAD) recently. The event was held for the second consecutive year with the primary objective of recognizing organizations for their efforts in developing Human Capital.
Out of many applicants, 23 companies have been shortlisted based on the report submitted on aspects relating to HR practices and training and development. All shortlisted organizations were screened through a comprehensive auditing process which was carried out by a renowned independent judging panel.
This is a significant recognition for the company as there is a clear Employee Development strategy that was stemmed down from the Corporate Strategy and the overall HR Strategy in which offers a wide range of benefits and facilities for employee learning and development. One of the unique T&D initiatives in the Company is the internal “General and Life Insurance Academy” which is commonly known as GLIA that conducts life and general insurance courses for their staff.
HNBA also has partnered with Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) to conduct sales and marketing courses in-house exclusively for employees and field advisors of the Company. It is the only insurance company that has a partnership with SLIM that gives added benefits to employees. There are specialized trainers that conduct regular sales and technical training workshops for both employees and field agents. An E-learning system and an in-house library are also in place for employees to learn and develop themselves at their own pace and convenience. The Company also has a laid down employee Manual and also maintains transparency in all employee related matters with several communication channels in terms of both top-down as well as bottom-up communication formalities.
Commenting on the Award, Manjula de Silva stated that it is an endorsement of HNBA’s commitment towards employee development. “Though this award is on T&D, it covers a wider scope as the evaluation was done on a set framework spanning ten focal points and strategies, such as Business Strategy, Learning and Development Strategy, People Management, Recognition and Reward, Involvement and Empowerment, etc. Hence, this achievement adds great value to the strides we have taken to ensure that we are truly an employee centric organization” he further stated.
This is the second award won by the HNBA HR Team this year as they won the “HR Practices in CSR” Award at the Asia Pacific HRM Congress which was held in India few months back. The Company also won an international award for excellence in Training and Development at the Asia’s Best Employer Brand Awards held in Singapore in 2013.
