A Look Back at HNBA‟s Community Based Engagements

Contemporary  business  practices  in  the  21stcentury  revolvesaround business  ethicsand   corporate   social   responsibility.Every   businessventurestrivesto   do „good‟especially within thecommunities which they operate in.Challengingthe established corporate  norm  and  the  clichéd  meaning  of „corporate  social  responsibility‟,  HNB Assurance (HNBA) drove many CSR initiativesduring the course of 2017to portray thetruemeaning of being a socially responsible corporatecitizen. Sharing his views, Managing Director/CEO of HNBA and its   fully   owned   subsidiary   HNB   General   Insurance Limited,  Deepthi  Lokuarachchi  stated  “as  a  businessfocused   onprotectionand   wellbeing   ofpeople,   we challenge  ourselvesto  drivesocial  and  environmental change.The    Grouppays    great    emphasis    on    the communitywhichit  operates  in,  the  environment  and its  people.Great  efforts  are  made  across  the Groupto ensurethateverypossible    measureis    taken    to minimize  the  impact  on  the  environmentand uplift  the lives ofpeople. The Grouphas categorized its corporate philanthropy into   sevenmain   focus   areas. Our   ultimate   goalis   to   protect   our community  and help  them  smileand with  every  step  taken,  we strike  tocreate  a meaningfuldifference andenrich the living standards of thepeople”. Under  the award  winning Water  Stewardship  program of  the  Company 04  schools  were  provided  access  to clean  drinking  water  during  the  year, bringingthe  total of such facilities provided to 50 schools with over 6,500 students.    Speaking    on    the    CSR    activities    of    the Company,  Dinesh  Yogaratnam,  Head  of  Marketing  of HNBA  and  HNBGI  stated,  “Amongst  several  other
significant CSR initiatives, HNBA sponsored the Deaf Cricket Team of Sri Lanka for the 3rdAsia  Deaf  Cricket  Cup  which  was  held  in  Hyderabad,  Indiaunder  the  category  of sports. The  Company  provided  financial  assistance  to  veteran  artists  during  2017 under the category of arts and culture. We have beena part of a school rehabilitation program  which  focused  on  developing  infrastructure  of  underprivileged  schools  and has  provided  multiple  scholarships  for  university  students  under  the  category  of education.Our Corporate Stewardship initiatives endeavors to touch as many lives as possible in areas that we feel has the most pressing need. We will continue to do our part, in our own way to help enliven and uplift the lives of those in our community”.

Setting a new benchmark for itself, HNB Assurance PLC bagged the prestigious Gold Award at the National Convention on Quality and Productivity 2024, hosted by the Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Quality and Productivity (SLAAQP). This award resulted from a long-term strategic initiative by HNBA to empower employees for scientific recognition of operational gaps and their resolution through adaptation of Lean Six Sigma methodology. The framework facilitated identifying our procurement process as a critical area for improvement and implementing effective solutions to speed up and set a new standard. The “Golden Awards 2024” hosted by HNB Assurance and HNB General Insurance, celebrated and recognized the outstanding achievements of top performers, including network management and branch managers from Hatton National Bank, for their significant contributions to the growth of HNBA and HNBGI. Stuart Chapman Appointed Chairman of HNB Assurance and HNB General Insurance

HNB Assurance PLC (HNBA) and HNB General Insurance Limited (HNBGI) are pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Stuart Chapman as the new Chairman, succeeding Mrs. Rose Cooray. With an exemplary career spanning four decades in multinational and local companies across diverse industries and particularly Insurance, Mr. Chapman brings a wealth of expertise to the organization.Mr. Chapman holds an MBA from the University of Colombo, a Diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM-UK), a Diploma in Life Insurance Sales and Marketing from the Life Underwriters Training Council (USA) and a Diploma in Business Management from the National Institute of Business Management (NIBM). His professional affiliations include being a Fellow Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (UK) and the Institute of Management (UK) as well as a Member of the Institute of Certified Management Accountants (Australia).In addition to 16 years in insurance, Mr. Chapman has also held leadership positions in industries such as Healthcare, FMCG, Consumer Durables, Banking and Telecommunications. He has previously served as the Managing Director of GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Pharmaceuticals, Director Life at Ceylinco Insurance, Managing Director LOLC, Director/CEO of Janashakthi Insurance, Marketing Director Reckitt Benckiser, and Senior Brand Manager Unilever, among other significant roles.Expressing his thoughts of his new role, Mr. Chapman stated, "I am honored to assume the position of Chairman at HNBA and HNBGI.
